Business Continuity Management

exhibition trailer

The British Continuity Institute (BCI) defines Business Continuity Management as “a holistic management process that identifies potential business impacts that threaten an organisation and provide a framework for building resilience with the capability for effective response that safeguards the interests of its key stakeholders, reputation, brand and value creating activities”.

The process is designed to deal with the disruptions that an organisation may have to cope with such as severe weather, a pandemic illness or industrial action.  The Civil Contingencies Secretariat have recently published guidance on the generic challenges to business continuity on http://www.pfe.gov.uk/business/generic_challenges/index.shtm which is a useful tool for businesses and other organisations

The Cabinet Office has published introductory material on pandemic influenza for businesses and other organisations which can be used as a basis of advice to staff during the current pandemic alert period WHO Phase 3 to raise awareness about pandemic influenza.  The advice can be found at: http://www.ukresilience.info/latest/human_pandemic.shtm#business    Publication does not mean either an increase in the risk of a pandemic emerging or that a pandemic is necessarily imminent. It is part of Cabinet Office's ongoing work to ensure that businesses and other organisations have appropriate advice to help them plan.

For further information see the BCI Website at www.thebci.org.  You can also obtain up to date security information from www.mi5.gov.uk.

Attached is the Business Continuity Institute short guide for business continuity planning and guidance from MI5.
